The Unplugged Ceremony: How to Kindly Ban Phones
Picture this:
You are walking down the aisle, looking out at your closest friends and family, and instead of seeing their joyful, teary eyes… you see a wall of glowing iPhones.
This is why the “Unplugged Ceremony” has become so popular. It simply means asking your guests to put their devices away and be fully present while we get you married. (Plus, your professional photographer will thank you for not having Uncle Bob’s iPad blocking the first kiss!).
How to make it happen without sounding bossy:
The Signage: Pop a beautiful sign at the entrance to your ceremony area. Keep it cute: “We invite you to be fully present. Please turn off your phones and cameras until after the first kiss!”
The Celebrant Announcement: This is where I come in! Before the music starts, I will gently remind your guests to tuck their phones away. I always promise them that you’ll happily share the professional photos later.
The Compromise: We can always do a “Phone Minute!” Once you are up the front, I can invite guests to take 60 seconds to snap their photos, and then tell them to put the phones away for the rest of the ceremony.
