Paws and Promises: How to Include Your Dog in Your Wedding

Dreaming of a canine ring bearer? Here are my top tips for involving your furry best friend safely.

Pet inclusive ceremonies:

For many couples, leaving their dog at home on their wedding day is simply not an option. They are family! But having a pet at a wedding requires a little bit of meticulous planning so things don’t go off the rails.

Here is how to include your pup without the chaos:

  1. Check the Rules: Before you buy that tiny dog tuxedo, confirm that your venue is actually pet-friendly.

  2. Hire a Pet Chaperone: This is the ultimate game-changer. Hire a professional (or assign a very trusted, non-bridal-party friend) to handle your dog. They can take them for a walk before the ceremony, hold the leash, and take them home when the reception gets too loud.

  3. The Ring Bearer Role: If your dog is bringing the rings, do not tie the real rings to their collar until the absolute last minute. (the last thing we want is a panicked groom searching the grass!).

  4. Know Your Dog’s Vibe: If your dog is anxious around crowds, it might be kinder to just include them in your morning getting-ready photos instead.

You don’t have to figure all this out on your own. Let’s grab a cuppa and talk about your vision for the day. I’ll bring the legal knowledge; you bring the ideas.
